Butte Fence installed my wood fence and free standing deck and awning. The fence was straight and well built. The deck/awning was very creative and has received numerous compliments already and we look forward to many years of use. The staff was good to work with and the installers efficient and friendly. Great company.

Most wood fences are made of cedar or redwood, which are great choices because they resist rot and decay better than other kinds of wood. Posts that go into the ground should be pressure-treated to protect them from moisture and insects. Another good option is to use steel posts. There are several styles of steel posts to choose from. It’s not so important that the pickets be pressure-treated and a little common sense will go a long way to helping them last longer.

As the wood dries, it will tend to split if not sealed properly. Just like waxing your car to protect it from weather, sealing your wood fence with a wood preservative will help to keep it warp and split-free. You’ll want to do what you can to keep excess moisture off the fence. Adjust sprinkler heads to keep them from hitting the fence. Also, protect your wood fence from excess weight that over time can cause it to lean and break. As beautiful as climbing vines can be, resist the urge to train them up your fence. They will hold in moisture, bring rot quicker and put too much weight on the wood as they grow. A trellis attached to the fence or preferably in front of the fence is a better solution for your vines.

Butte Fence is excited to introduce you to a new product line that is a great alternative to wrought iron. Alumi-Guard has all the beauty of iron for ornamental fencing applications without the hassles! It’s light, strong and and easy to work with for residential or commercial projects. The beautiful powder-coat finish (white, black or bronze) won’t ever rust, so it’s virtually maintenance-free. While Alumi-Guard is priced competitively with iron, it carries a better warranty. Consider Alumi-Guard for your new fence, gate or custom arbor!

Standard composite decking like the original Trex is made from a mixture of plastic, sawdust and a binder to hold the components together. The recipe varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. They are typically the least expensive of the choices out there, especially the ones that use wood materials as the binding ingredient. They also don’t hold up as well, tending to scratch and hold stains more readily than other materials, and also weaken more quickly.

Cellular PVC decking is solid to the core and typically is finished to resemble real wood. They are very low maintenance and higher in price than other choices. They also tend to weigh much less than your traditional composite deck products.

Capstock composite decking is relatively new in the marketplace and is a combination of composite material on the inside with a plastic coating on the outside. It is less expensive than cellular PVC and holds up under normal use better than straight composite decking. These are very hard to scratch and will resist stain. They typically carry a 25 year no stain, no fade warranty. One of the major players in this category is Fiberon. Butte Fence is a stocking dealer.

Tamko and Fiberon have products in each of these categories of decking and Butte Fence stocks their products.

Whether you have a large outdoor space that needs distinct divisions between areas used for different purposes, or a small space that you would like to make more private, free-standing fencing and screens are flexible options many landscapers use effectively without blocking views of the surrounding nature.

In subdivisions where lot lines are close and space is at a premium, installing a privacy fence can work wonders to create a backyard haven. Using open lattice-work along the top of standard six-foot fencing panels is an effective solution to that feeling of being on display to your neighbors. This technique works on a deck or patio, or could be constructed in any location you choose. By adding pavers and a pergola, you can create an entirely separate backyard room. Use the existing elevations to your advantage – sinking or raising the patio if your landscaping dictates it, clearly defines it as a distinctive component of your yard. Complete the effect with climbing flowering vines, your choice of outdoor furniture and lighting and you’re ready to relax!

Fencing also makes beautiful backdrops for other focal points you want to draw attention to, like fountains, fire pits, swimming pools or other water features. Seat walls are a beautiful and utilitarian way to provide extra seating while directing traffic to other areas of your yard…perhaps a pathway to a pond or playground.

Fencing isn’t just for keeping the pets and children contained! Use it as a design component for your outdoor living space.

Consider covering your patio or deck this spring to add value to your home as well as quality to your life! There are many materials that can be used to create a strong, durable cover that can withstand our area’s typical weather patterns and incorporate natural elements to enhance the beauty of the structure.

Patio covers create the perfect ambiance for a total outdoor living room, complete with cushy furniture and even a TV and sound system, depending on your preferences. Waterproof curtains can easily hang around the perimeter to keep you dry, a small heater can be added to keep you warm when fall is in the air and a water feature can provide the peace of a zen garden…right outside your back door!

This is a perfect way to add space and personality to your home without adding a lot of expense or maintenance costs. Ask us how!
